Many question whether the Jews are God’s chosen people. Some say Yes. Others say they once were, but are no longer. Fortunately, Scripture answers this question directly, clearly, and unambiguously.
Are the Jews God’s people? Scripture is remarkably clear, consistent, and unambiguous.
“O seed of Abraham His servant, you children of Jacob, His chosen ones!” Psalm 105:6-11
“For you are a holy people to the Lord your God; the Lord your God has chosen you to be a people for Himself, a special treasure…” Deuteronomy 7:6
“For you are a holy people to the Lord your God, and the Lord has chosen you to be a people for Himself, a special treasure…” Deuteronomy 14:2
“The Lord delighted only in your fathers… and He chose their descendants after them, you above all peoples, as it is this day.” Deuteronomy 10:15
“For the Lord has chosen Jacob for himself, Israel as His own possession.” Psalm 135:4
“But you, Israel, are My servant, whom I have chosen, The descendants of Abraham My friend. You whom I have taken from the ends of the earth, And called from its farthest regions, And said to you, ‘You are My servant, I have chosen you and have not cast you away.” Isaiah 41:8-9
God explicitly says He will never forsake nor reject Israel as His people:
“For the Lord will not forsake His people, for His great name’s sake, because it has pleased the Lord to make you His people.” 1 Samuel 12:22
“I will never cast them away… nor break My covenant with them; for I am the Lord their God. For their sake I will remember the covenant of their ancestors, whom I brought out of the land of Egypt in the sight of the nations, that I might be their God: I am the Lord.” Leviticus 26:44-45
“Thus says the Lord, who gives the sun for a light by day, the ordinances of the moon and the stars for a light by night, who disturbs the sea, and its waves roar (the Lord of hosts is His name): “If those ordinances depart From before Me, says the Lord, Then the seed of Israel shall also cease From being a nation before Me forever.”” Jeremiah 31:35-36
“I will never cast away the descendants of Jacob nor of David My servant… I will have mercy on them.” Jeremiah 33:25-26
Even within the New Covenant framework, Paul confirms the same:
“I say then, has God cast away His people? Certainly not… God has not cast away His people whom He foreknew.” Romans 11:1-2
Though many within Israel presently reject the gospel, the New Testament still affirms their ongoing election:
“Concerning the gospel they are enemies for your sake, but concerning the election they are beloved for the sake of the fathers. For the gifts and the calling of God are irrevocable.” Romans 11:28-29
Gentiles are described as grafted into Israel’s olive tree, not replacing it:
“But if some of the branches were broken off, and you, although a wild olive shoot, were grafted in among the others and now share in the nourishing root of the olive tree, do not be arrogant toward the branches. If you are, remember it is not you who support the root, but the root that supports you.” Romans 11:17-18
The New Testament consistently reaffirms Israel as God’s chosen people, even as it celebrates the inclusion of the nations:
“Rejoice, O Gentiles, with His people.” Romans 15:10 cf. Deuteronomy 32:43
Scripture is clear, consistent, and unambiguous. Israel remains God’s chosen people, and the inclusion of the Gentiles does not revoke or replace that election.
