An Abundantly Available Help

There is nothing more important to God than being abundantly available and incredibly accessible in your time of need. God values you so much that helping you out is of highest priority.

Abundantly Available

God is our refuge and strength, a very present help in trouble. Therefore we will not fear… Psalm 46:1–2 (NKJV)

Whenever you are in a time of trouble, God wants you to know that He is very near. He wants to help. In fact, He makes Himself abundantly available to help. The phrase “a very present help” literally means, “an abundantly available help.” In other words, God is an abundantly available help in time of trouble. This should get you excited!

God is not like our natural doctors who find themselves too busy helping other patients, while we are left sitting in a waiting room. When it comes to God being available, there is no waiting room. He has not overcommitted Himself to other people or other problems so as to hinder His availability. He is an abundantly available help in time of trouble.

Think about your own schedule. You will make yourself available for the things you value most. If you value seeing a certain person, you will find the time to make yourself available to stop by and say hello. If you value a certain sports team, you will find the time to watch the important games of the season. In fact, you will even prioritize your schedule to accommodate the things that are most important to you. And if something isn’t as important, you would have no problem rearranging your schedule to accommodate those things that are more important. In other words, you have no problem making yourself available to someone or something when you value it enough, even if it takes place at inconvenient times.

Consider this example. If you found out that someone you love and value with all your heart was being rushed to the hospital, you would have no problem clearing your day of all your prior commitments and meetings—and possibly your entire week—to be both present and available for your loved one. All of a sudden, whatever was on your calendar is no longer the priority. You are making yourself available to what matters most.

When God says that He is an abundantly available help in time of trouble, it is because He values you so much that helping you out is of highest priority. There is nothing more important to God that will prevent Him from being available to you in your time of need. He not only makes Himself available, but abundantly available.

Incredibly Accessible

So how should we respond to God’s abundant availability? Hebrews 4:16 says, “Let us therefore come boldly to the throne of grace, that we may obtain mercy and find grace to help in time of need.” (NKJV). There is no need to be insecure about approaching God for help, especially in time of need. He is not taxed or inconvenienced when approached for help. In fact, He welcomes it. He has made Himself abundantly available for this purpose. And you can approach Him and call on Him for whatever reason you may have.

For what great [people] is there that has God so near to it, as the Lord our God is to us, for whatever reason we may call upon Him? Deuteronomy 4:7 (NKJV)

God is not only abundantly available, He is also incredibly accessible. No matter what you may be going through, God wants you to call upon Him. That’s prayer. He also wants you to know that you may call on Him for any reason whatsoever. He is not inconvenienced or interrupted by your prayers. You are not a distraction. He has made Himself abundantly available and incredibly accessible. He loves you. He values you. He wants to be your Helper. And He will come through for you.

If you are in a time of trouble; if you have any needs; if there is something weighing on you; if you need God to come through in a real and personal and tangible way; approach the Lord in prayer and ask for help, believing by faith that He will answer you and help you.

For He Himself has said, “Never will I leave you; never will I forsake you.” So we can say with confidence, “The Lord is my helper; I will not be afraid. What can man do to me?” Hebrews 13:5–6 (NIV84, NKJV)

There is nothing more important to God than being abundantly available to help you! He will drop whatever He is doing (so-to-speak) to be a very present help in your time of need.
