A Place of True Security

In a world filled with uncertainty, there is a place of security. And when we find ourselves facing a challenge or adversity, we have somewhere to run to and someone to turn to, but most people put their confidence and security in other things.

“The name of the Lord is a strong tower (a place of protection, provision and security), the righteous run to it and are safe.” Proverbs 18:10

In a world filled with uncertainty, there is a place of security. And when we find ourselves in a jam or in trouble, facing a challenge or adversity, we have somewhere to run to and someone to turn to, and his name is Jesus. And only in Jesus can we find a true place of protection, provision and security.

But most people put their confidence and security in other things.

The very next verse goes on to say that the rich man’s wealth is his strong city, and like a high wall in his own esteem (vs 11). In other words, his security is in money. And it’s not only wealthy people who put their security in money. It’s poor people as well. Though they may not have the money, they assume if they only had more money, they would be more secure. So they feel vulnerable without it.

But the Bible says there is a deceitfulness to riches. The deception is to think we are more secure when we have more money. More money means more security, but it’s a lie. In fact the Bible calls money “uncertain riches.” Solomon, the wealthiest king to have ever lived, said that money has a way of making wings and flying away. In other words, money is easy to lose. It is uncertain. It has ups and downs. The economy can change, companies can close, jobs can be lost, sales can go down, salaries can be lowered. Not to mention expenses can rise and cost-of-living can go up. It becomes a double whammy. Money is uncertain.

But we have someone who is more sure than money! Always dependable! Always faithful! And in an uncertain world, we can have true security. And it’s not found in money. It’s only found in Jesus Christ. He is the same yesterday, today and forever!

Let this be a reminder that true security is not found in materialism or money, but only in Jesus.

Whatever it is you may be facing today, no matter the challenge or the obstacle, do not put your confidence in money. Put your confidence in Jesus Christ and run to Him.
